This Independence Day, while many are celebrating freedom with fireworks, Glitz honoree Mari Lopez is helping tell the story of those who had to fight for their slice of the American Dream — by any means necessary.
Debuting this 4th of July weekend across major streaming platforms, #MiamiKingpins is more than a story about the streets. It’s a raw, unfiltered documentary that dives deep into Miami’s underworld legends — Convertible Burt, Bo Dilley, and Big Ike — and the culture, pain, pride, and survival that shaped a generation.
From drug trade politics to street influence, the film explores how this hidden world became a powerful thread in Miami’s identity — not just through crime, but through resilience, community, and hustle.
As a first-generation immigrant, Mari Lopez brings a deeply personal perspective to the project.
“I saw up close the struggles of marginalized communities in my hometown,” she shares. “Learning about Miami OGs like Convertible Burt, Bo Dilley and Big Ike showed me a side of survival most never see.”
Mari is no stranger to hard truths — and her voice in this project brings empathy, power, and cultural clarity to stories often misunderstood or misrepresented. It’s why she was honored as a Glitz & Girlpower Honoree — and why she continues to make waves as a creative, connector, and cultural contributor.
The project comes to life thanks to the creative vision of Josh “Redd” Burke, and the backing of Miami music mogul Ted Lucas — whose belief in the power of storytelling makes this moment possible.
“In a divided city,” Mari says, “the drug trade became an unlikely unifier… linking people through culture, resilience, and necessity”
Celebrate real stories this weekend — not just the red, white, and blue — but the grit, gold, and grind of the people who shaped the Miami we know today.
